The Moorhead, Minnesota, community is mourning the death of Elijah Blue Baumann, 24, who died after suffering life-threatening injuries in a serious multi-vehicle crash in Fargo, North Dakota. A funeral-home notice confirms that Baumann died on September 16, 2026, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo.

The crash occurred on September 13, 2026, at the intersection of University Drive and 15th Avenue South in Fargo. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the collision involved a Chrysler 300, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and a Mercedes-Benz.

Fargo Multi-Vehicle Crash

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a Cass County deputy had earlier observed the Chrysler traveling at approximately 120 mph in a 45-mph zone near 76th Avenue South. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, and the deputy did not pursue it because of safety concerns.

Minutes later, the Chrysler was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of University Drive near 15th Avenue South when it struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and subsequently collided with a Mercedes-Benz.

Baumann, who was driving the Chrysler, suffered life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in his vehicle were also injured. The motorcycle driver, 19-year-old Isaac Putney of Fargo, suffered life-threatening injuries, while the Mercedes-Benz driver was not injured.

Authorities said Baumann was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation remained ongoing, and pending charges included driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, and criminal vehicular injury.
